You can be one of the first people to go surfing at The Wave – here’s how – Bristol Post

In just a few months’ time we will be able to add surfing to the long list of activities possible in Bristol.

The Wave is nearing completion and it would be fair to say excitement is building ahead of its November launch, with people far and wide eager to try it out.

The attraction will be the country’s first ever inland surfing lake when it opens in Easter Compton and promises to deliver perfect waves for surfers of all abilities.

And if you’re one of those desperate to try it out for yourself, the team behind it have launched a search for people to appear in its first lineup.

They are calling on people to nominate someone with an inspiring story who they think deserves to surf the first public waves this autumn.

Founder Nick Hounsfield said: “I’m often asked who is going to ride the first waves and people assume it will be me.

“I’ve always said that I don’t want it to be about me, and that there are many more deserving people. The Wave is about more than the individual – it’s about people coming together to share the joy of surfing and we want our first lineup to reflect that.

“We’re asking for nominations for inspiring people to ride our first public waves. We’re looking for ordinary people that have done extraordinary things, everyday heroes that have overcome big problems or individuals who’ve achieved something amazing.”

Nick added that the surfing experience of the nominees is not important and they can instead be people who have never stepped foot on a surfboard before.

How to nominate someone

If you have someone in mind you would like to nominate, here’s how to do it:

You can either nominate someone by posting a video on social media explaining who you are proposing and why, tagging @thewave and using the hashtags #FindYourWave and #Giveawave.
