1. Corolla
Located in the northern Outer Banks, Corolla offers lower temperatures and small swells perfect for beginners. Surfing in Corolla is fun for the whole family and is often less crowded than the central beaches.
2. Duck
Duck, NC is one of the most popular vacation spots on the Outer Banks, and for good reason! The town of Duck is beautiful and offers some of the best accommodations on the island. Duck is also nationally recognized as one of the “Top 15 Family-Friendly Beaches in America.” Surfing is one of the most popular beach activities in Duck and surf lessons are offered at the Sanderling Resort.
3. Nags Head
Nags Head is one of the most popular areas to surf on the Outer Banks. Excellent waves for all skill levels can be found along the Nags Head beach road. This also means that these beaches are more crowded than some of the others. Just make certain to respect the other surfers and swimmers in the water when you go surfing in Nags Head.
4. Rodanthe
The Outer Banks’ southern beaches feature bright, clear water and some of the best surfing on the East Coast. Surfing in Rodanthe is a favorite among professionals and amateurs alike. What was once a secret haven for surfers, is now popular and often crowded. But the waves are still as good as ever.
