Surfline, the world’s leading surf report and forecast service, is pleased to welcome Garmin® to its Surfline Sessions Compatible Program.
With today’s launch of the Garmin Instinct® Solar – Surf Edition and fēnix® 6 solar editions, owners of these devices and other Garmin surf-compatible watches can pair their watches with the Surfline Sessions app and receive video footage of their rides from over 600 Surfline cameras around the world.
All of these Garmin devices count a surfer’s waves, measure their top speed, determine distance surfed, track total water time, and now, thanks to the Surfline Sessions relationship, allow surfers to capture their rides on video.
Here’s how it works: A surfer heads to the beach and presses Start on the surf activity on their watch. After surfing for as long as they wish in front of any Surfline camera, the Surfline/Garmin connection creates not only a record of every wave ridden in the Garmin app, but also a video clip of each ride in the Surfline app — all delivered to the surfer’s smartphone by the time they get out of the water.
“We’re excited to bring Surfline Sessions and auto-edited clips to Garmin watch owners through Surfline Compatibility,” said Ross Garrett, President of Surfline. “Surfing is beautifully fleeting, which is in part why photos and video have played such a huge role in the culture. Preserving little bits of that experience is magical, and to do so effortlessly with Garmin watches will be a huge benefit to surfers everywhere.”
“Surfers around the world use existing Garmin outdoor wearables, so we are thrilled to work with Surfline to provide purpose-built watches with features to help further their passion and relive their experiences,” said Jon Hosler, Garmin senior product manager. “In addition to the Surfline compatibility, the incorporation of solar charging technology in these new watches lets surfers worry less about battery life and focus more on doing what they love longer.”
The Surfline Sessions Compatible Partner Program was created to drive innovation while accommodating surfers who want to track their surf sessions via numerous services/devices. This program includes both software and hardware developers that meet a standard of quality determined by Surfline. More Surfline Sessions Compatible Program members will be announced throughout the coming year.
