Contest organizer Steve Pullara expects nearly 150 competitors to participate in the Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am this weekend in Vilano Beach.
Pullara started the event in 1990 and it has been an annual fixture at Vilano Beach since 1995. The tournament begins at 3 p.m. today with the men’s pro divisions at the Vilano Beach ramp on the east end of Vilano Road near the beach pavilian. It continues Saturday and Sunday with competition beginning at 8 a.m. each day.
Pullara expects competitors from ages 5 to 52 in 11 amateur divisions with each participant guaranteed at least two competitions. Pros will also compete in the men’s and women’s open pro divisions.
The Florida Pro/Am is one of six professional men’s contests and one of three pro women’s contests on the United Skim Tour that determines the 2018 world champs.
Pullara said competitors this weekend will descend on Vilano Beach from over 75 different beaches worldwide, including Brazil and Mexico.
Specatators can watch the action for free. Weather permitting the tournament will also feature games and music.
