Kenosha lighthouse ready to bloom with daisy installation – Kenosha News

Artist Dale Mellor holds a “skeleton” of one of the daisies for the lighthouse project. The petals will be attached to the wire ends to finish the daisy. The daisies, Mellor said, “are realistic, not abstract; you won’t see the wire.”
Kenosha artist Dale Mellor is helping the North Pier Lighthouse blossom this month.
She is working on a temporary art installation that consists of large, handcrafted daisies attached to the exterior of the lighthouse.
The installation — called “New Beginnings” — will be in place July 22-31 (weather permitting), when Mellor is the artist in residence at the studio inside the lighthouse.
Mellor explained that daisies traditionally represent new beginnings, adding that “every day is a new day to bring peace and harmony to Kenosha.”
There will also be a blue daisy “to remember those who have been tragically lost in Lake Michigan,” Mellor said.
The artist has previously worked on the lighthouse, painting the “Kenosha Wings” and “Inside the Lighthouse” in 2016 and the “Gold Ring” in 2018.
The project, Mellor said, “has been enthusiastically sponsored by local businesses and individuals who love to support local art and artists. Notably, Diver Dan’s Scuba & Aquatic have sponsored the blue memorial daisy.”
Sponsors also include Franks Diner, Little Raven Fiber Arts, Artfulfox Designs, Junior Women’s Club of Kenosha, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Wildroots Salon & Studio, Lemon Street Gallery, Lynn Johnston, Beth and Kim Dary, Ruth Taddy, Cara Michelle, Liz Ainslie Peschman, Charles Bartucz, Matt Geary, Ann Reyes, Chantal McLelland, Jack and Jerin Moore, Richard Mellor, Rich and MaryLou Deakin, Downtown Kenosha Inc. Julia Mellor.
