Planning permission has been granted for an expansion of North Yorkshire Water Park at Wykeham Lakes near Scarborough.

Full planning permission was granted by Scarborough Borough Council’s Planning Committee on 24 July 2020 for a new wakeboarding park and café.

The development are designed to support North Yorkshire Water Park’s aim of becoming a year round visitor destination, and are set to create 15 new full- and part-time jobs.

Opening in spring 2021, the new Wake Park is set to be the first of its kind in North Yorkshire. It will provide facilities for people new to the sport to learn how to wakeboard, while more experienced Wakeboarders will be able to improve their jumps and tricks.

The new permanent café will overlook the leisure lake and create a space for events, business meeting and private parties, as well as for locals and visitors

Andrew Backhouse, manager of North Yorkshire Water Park, said: “We’re thrilled that our plans have been given the go ahead. Our range of water sports activities and open water swimming have been very popular since we reopened this season and we look forward to next year when we will have the Wake Park, inflatable AquaPark and new larger café up and running.”

North Yorkshire Water Park is part of The Dawnay Estates and covers an area in the region of 618 acres.

It re-opened in June for the 2020 summer season with a limited range of activities including kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, open water swimming and pedalos, which can be accessed while following social distancing guidelines. The inflatable AquaPark is closed for this season but is planned to re-open next year.
