With more than 30 years of business tucked under its toque, Kahuna Surf Shop has remained one of the province’s longest running skate, surf and outdoor lifestyle shops.

Located just steps from Orillia’s amazing waterfront, Kahuna Surf Shop opened its doors in 1980 as a windsurfing store before making the shift to offering a wide variety of outdoor adventure items.

From surfboards, skateboards, and wakeboards to snowboarding and ski gear, Kahuna is the city’s top destination for anyone seeking some outdoor adventure, no matter what the season. Along with all of the gear, Kahuna Surf Shop also has a huge variety of clothing and apparel from hats and shoes to bathing suits and winter jackets.

“I think a big thing is we really focus on service and just try to get people what they are looking for,” said manager Dylan Court. “We will go the extra mile and order items for customers if there is nothing here in store for them.”

Court credits the staff’s knowledge of the store’s product and brands, as well as taking the time to get to know their customers really well, as definite keys to the store’s long-term success.

“We get a really amazing response to our Instagram page as well. We post a lot of humorous ads and photos to get people engaged. I think offering a wide mix of items in our store to cater to a wider variety of customer allows us to have a little something for everyone.”

The location doesn’t hurt either, he noted.

“Being near several lakes and places to go hiking and take part in numerous outdoor activities lends itself nicely to what we offer,” he said. “People coming up from Toronto, that’s what they’re coming up here to do.”
