Formula Kite: the official foiling equipment for the Olympic Games – SurferToday

As a result, athletes will compete for medals using hydrofoils and specific foil kites licensed under the Formula Kite class rules.

International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) invited kite industry manufacturers to submit equipment for validation by the Technical Committee.

All future IKA-approved kites and hydrofoil systems must be mass-produced in a production series of at least 100 pieces per model/size and tight and minimum size and weight tolerances.

According to the rulebook, brands should guarantee a minimum production scheme of 50 items per equipment/model/size per month, at least until the end of the next Olympic cycle.

Manufacturers must also make sure their equipment is available worldwide. The equipment registration deadline is May 1, 2021.

All kites and foiling gear will be approved and evaluated in competition until the end of 2021.

After that, World Sailing will license the official 2024 Olympic kiting equipment through a separate agreement with the successful manufacturers.

The following kites and hydrofoil parts may be licensed for the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing competition at the end of the evaluation period.

All lists are being updated as new gear gets the official IKA validation.
