TORRINGTON — Center Subaru and the Litchfield Hills Northwest Elderly Nutrition Program teamed up again this holiday season to support Meals on Wheels.

Subaru’s Share the Love® nationwide event donates $250 for each new Subaru sold or leased to the customer’s choice of one of four national charities, including Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) which then distributes this money to local Meals on Wheels Programs.

Subaru team members joined the Litchfield Hills Northwest Elderly Nutrition Program with a Thanksgiving luncheon at the Sullivan Senior Center on Nov. 21; driving meals to the Lindley facility in Torrington and help deliver meals to Meals on Wheels clients on Nov. 23. On Dec. 11, the team helped provide a Christmas lunch at the Sullivan Senior Center. All money received in the past years has been used to purchase new trucks.

NRWIB opens satellite office in Winsted

WINSTED — The Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board has opened a satellite American Job Center on the campus of Northwestern Connecticut Community College, as of Jan. 2. The satellite office is intended to improve services to all the residents of the Northwest corner by shortening the travel time to the Torrington Office on Field Street.

Residents can apply for jobs, sign up for employment services, explore educational and training opportunities. The office will be open on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in The Goulet Building.

Executive Director Catherine Awwad said she was pleased that the NRWIB is able to reach deeper into the Northwest Region with the opening.

“Being able to deliver workforce services to residents closer to their own communities in the Northwest corner is wonderful,” she said in a statement. “Our partnership with NWCC has been very effective in delivering training options. Now we can expand our services, have one-on-one meetings by appointment for residents in the area. We can also better serve the student population at NWCC and assist them with job placement. This location will also allow us to host small employer recruitments closer to the employer’s facility. We are thrilled with the expansion and may expand it to more than one day per week based on the traffic.”

College President Dr. Michael Rook said, “Northwestern CT Community College is delighted to partner with the NW Workforce Investment Board on opening the satellite AJC. This will be a tremendous resource for the people in this community, who will be able to access services much more easily. In addition, our own students can also benefit from the services of the AJC while on campus. This is a wonderful example of how the WIB, the college and the whole community can benefit from collaborating to help the people of Litchfield County.”
