Windsurfer airlifted to hospital after being found unconscious in the sea – Pirate FM

The man, who is in his 50s and from Penzance, was floating next to his board in the water at Marazion and two other windsurfers managed to get him to the shore.

Cornwall Air Ambulance, Penzance Coastguard Rescue team, paramedics and police were all called on Wednesday afternoon.

The man suffered serious injuries and was given medical assistance before being taken to Treliske by helicopter.

Police say he has since been transferred to Derriford in Plymouth where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

“Police were called by Falmouth Coastguard at around 2.30pm on Wednesday 20th November with reports that a male windsurfer had been recovered from the water at Marazion beach.

“Paramedics and the air ambulance also attended the scene.

“The male, aged in his 50s from Penzance, was taken to Treliske Hospital with serious injuries.

“He has since been transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.”

“We were tasked today the 20th November at 14.32 by Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre to a report that a male windsurfer had been recovered from the sea and was unconscious.

“Having been windsurfing in the sea off the Station House, Marazion, the male had been observed in trouble and was now floating next to his board. Two other windsurfers, close to his position, proceeded to his location and managed to return him to the shore.

“Arriving on scene the team joined ambulance crews, already arrived, by providing additional equipment and medical assistance to the unconscious male, local police officers were also in attendance.

“Requiring an urgent transfer to hospital the services of the Cornwall Air Ambulance was requested and soon it was landing at the scene of the incident.

“After further treatment the male was put in a stretcher and transferred to the helicopter for onward transportation to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.

“Once this was completed we were free to re-group and then to return to station.”
