VOP: Law and civility must prevail in any impeachment proceedings
Do we listen? Do we discern? Do we care? Can we speak with respect and civility?
In our current political climate, we sacrifice so much. It seems that we must affiliate with a particular “camp” or “party.” Once in that group, we are to follow the leader blindly, regardless of the direction, methodology or communication style revealed.
It’s all about power, money, prestige, influence and fame. I, for one, do not believe that any behavior, action or course is supportable, as long as we “make money.” In other words, any and all means do not justify a “win.”
As do many others, I ingest the news and attempt to find a factual basis for decision-making. As the issue moves forward regarding impeachment allegations against our president, I am hopeful that all involved will search for and honor the truth. Once the truth is uncovered and validated, the law must be applied and individuals held accountable, regardless of party affiliation, position, power or authority.
It should not make a difference if one is a Republican, Democrat, Independent or a member of any other group; the foundational issue must be the truth and supporting that goal by applying the law and accountability. Threats, criticisms and persecution do not solve any problems, but they do help to reveal the soul of our being.
I do not know the ending of this story, but I am hopeful that we can all “take a breath,” suspend, listen, understand, gather the facts, then apply them as our Constitution and laws direct. If we do not, then we are not who we claim to be as a “People and a Nation.”
