A Weymouth youth windsurfing club are taking part in an ambitious challenge today, in memory of a local teenager.
Will’s Weymouth Warriors are named after Will Mackaness who lost his battle to cancer in 2008.
They’ll be trying to beat a record set by Pete Young for the total distance covered in Portland Harbour in one day.
A special charity event is also be held at The Official Test Centre on Portland today and tomorrow.
The Will Mackaness Trust are also celebrating the donation of new windsurfing equipment provided by Alton Water Watersports Centre, a charity-run centre, which has been forced to close due to circumstances beyond their control.
Tris Best, OTC Director, said:
“The Trust do so much for the local youths, so this is an opportunity for those that have benefitted from the charity’s support to give something back.
“The challenge is not an easy one, but I think there’s some real talent in the emerging local young-guns, so I think they’ll be able to do it – let’s just hope for some wind on the day!”
